On Thursday, April 5th, the Dominican American National Foundation (DANF) celebrated 30 years of promoting Dominican culture in the US by presenting the first ever “Dominican Heritage Night” experience in the history of the Houston Rockets, which featured a special halftime presentation of the DANF Blue Flame of Achievement award to the first Top 10 Draft Pick in the NBA of Dominican descent, (the #7 pick of the 2005 and former NCAA National Champion) Charlie Villanueva. This one-of-a-kind cultural display brought the tropical energy of the Dominican Republic and its people to the Toyota Center as the Houston Rockets took on the Portland Trailblazers. Heading the DANF‘s pre-game performance was (Mega 101.1 FM’s biggest Latin DJ) DJ Geraldo with a guest appearance by the Tipico Dancers on the Rockets’ launch pad and Houston’s very own, (Dominican born recording artist) Yamilka G, sang the American National anthem.
Houston made NBA Latino history as the Dominican flag waved proudly for the first time ever at the Toyota Center during what promises to be an amazing night. A special thanks to FOX 26 Houston & Coco Dominguez for covering our event!
